Comuna Crew Stay & Learn

was created by Madoka & Tom.

Madoka is from Shizuoka, near Mt. Fuji. She went to University in Osaka and spent one year in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Tom is from the South East of England and moved to Japan "for a year" in 2012.

After meeting in 2013, we soon made plans to go to Colombia, and finally in 2016 we got there. We spent 10 months in Medellín, studying Spanish, teaching English & Japanese and volunteering. Our time there was really significant to both of us and gave us a lot of the inspiration to set up this project.

We returned to Tokyo with a new, shared goal of setting up a guesthouse which would try to recreate the amazing community spirit we had fallen in love with in Medellín. After getting married in November 2017, we moved in to Comuna Crew in May the following year.

It's been an amazing experience so far and we aim to keep improving as we go, with the help of our all our friends and wonderful guests!

Thank you!

Although Madoka and Tom run the day-to-day of the guesthouse by themselves, Comuna Crew Stay & Learn could never have happened without a lot of support from our amazing friends and family.

Special mention to

Alex, who helped us create our logo and branding,

Kyouhei, who helped us move in to this fantastic house,

Ali & Julio, The Camera Crew, who took all the beautiful photos of the house,

Kazu & Marie, from NASUBI Mt. Fuji Backpackers, for donating two beautiful handmade bed frames,

Andrew, for hauling furniture across Tokyo.

To get everything started, we ran a campaign on indiegogo to raise some of the initial costs of the guesthouse. We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped us to make our dream come true! When you visit Comuna Crew Stay & Learn you can see pictures of some of the generous people who sponsored furniture, crockery or bedrooms in the house.

Here are just a few examples... thanks to Dan for modelling a few!
